At the beginning of every week in 2013 I’ll be sharing a different way to be happy for FREE. Being happy doesn’t cost anything except your decision to try. I show you how I got happy that week and hope to inspire you to do the same. Join my Get Happy for FREE challenge, you have nothing to lose and a whole lot of smiles to gain!

Stop, close your eyes and take a little whiff of that lovely fragrance all around you.

In this week’s get happy challenge, I reached out to my good friend Nadia from LoveLiveandGarden.com. We always hear the expression to, “Stop and Smell the Flowers,” and I wanted to know if there was anything to that. Last week I focused on the sounds of nature, this week I wanted to explore the fragrance of nature.

Aromatherapy may sound like a catchy new gimmick, but it is not. It is actually an ancient form of alternative medicine that uses essential oils for the purpose of enhancing a person’s physical and/or emotional health.

Ancient cultures such as the Egyptians, Chinese, Indians, Greeks and Romans have used essential oils for therapeutic purposes for thousands of years.

Research has shown:
  • Lemon oil is uplifting and reduces stress and depression.
  • Lemon oil enhances one’s mood and helps with relaxation.
  • Lavendar, Jasmine, Chamomile and Peppermint are also used as anti-depressants.
  • Rose oil scent reduces blood pressure.

With such numerous benefits and many more not listed, what are easy ways to use aromatherapy in our everyday life?

Week 25:
This week try using Easy Aromatherapy.

1.Use herbs as a houseplant.

When you pass by it rub your fingers on the leaves and then smell the fragrance on your fingers.

2.Smell then eat.

Before you eat that sweet piece of fruit take a long whiff of it’s fruity scent.

3.Clean with it.

Add 10 drops of an essential oil such as Tea Tree Oil or Lemon Oil to a homemade cleaner. Every time you clean you get that relaxing scent too.

4.Multi-task bath.

Pick a soap infused with essential oils or flowers. You need soap anyways, might as well pick one that relaxes you too!

5.Real food.

Another reason to eat real food! Instead of using premixed powdered herbs, such as Lemon Pepper, use the real thing! Use fresh lemons, fresh garlic, fresh rosemary.
